  • EGOS

    4 mei 2011

The opening of the EGOS exhibit (see my Exhibitions) was on Monday at 6 pm. Because most of the artists live in Italy there weren''t too many of them present. The curator Mr. Mirko (left), was there as was the gallery owner, and a handful of the artists which included me.

Because Monday was a bank holiday there weren''t any visitors either. But now the show is running in the posh heart of London and I hope we do well.

I took advantage of visiting the National Gallery and on Tuesday I went to see the Pre-Rafaelites on show in the V&A, which included some originals of Beardsly and an original photograph of Oscar Wilde. Well worth a visit and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

    cheers

    Alann

  • ONE FOOT IN THE DOOR IN LONDON

    17 april 2011

I decided to submit my work here at the Shire Hall of Stafford, for a competition (I hate competitions since I don''''t consider art to be competition of race horses) which selected artists work for the celebration of the 21st anniversary of The Shire Hall.

We could bring in three works, which I did, and the jury was a one man show performed by famous Londoner artist Rob Ryan.

  • BACK ON THE CHAINGANG

    3 april 2011

    Dear visitor,

At last some news from me; yes, never say never again. But I am back from Cambodia where I taught at one of the best Unis in Phnom Penh for about 9 months.

I came back with a determination to pick up the thread I left in Loja Ecuador in 2009.

I took a sabbatical of nearly 21 months. I questioned each and everytime if it was worth to contribute to the millions of images  spawned on this earth by so many artists and people on the net.
I realised when in trance that I had everything in my head already and I didn't feel the need to paint it anymore.

But blood crawls where it cannot walk, in so much that I could not stop creating (videos and digital stills) on my laptop when I had some energy left after teaching.

But the biggest change came in the form of a catharsis when my father died in November from a terminal disease. That same week of the 21 to the 25th 350 Cambodians were stampeded to death on a bridge with the mystical name of Diamond Bridge. They died suffocating, electrocuted on a beautiful bridge and the people in Phom Penh and beyond were afraid they would not pass over to the afterworld if they hadn't been helped by prayers from the monks.

I was rushed into a stream of imagery which nearly commanded me to paint about these crucial events in my life, there in Asia.

Paint program was my only tool in my small hotel room where I lived.

Now in England with new energy, I decided to make big canvases full of that spirit world which I had been drawn into in Bolivia, from 2005 onwards until now. Peru and Ecuador.

I get often visitations and have developed into a medium speaking different tongues when in trance, whether in Uk, Asia or South America, the spirits will never leave me anymore.

Art has come back as the microbe that had caught me at the age of 3.

I will soon show you some of my digital ideas and hopefully the big works too.

    Hasta la vista!

    Alann

  • MY DAY OF BIRTH

    30 maart 2010

Fifty-one years ago about quarter to or past eight am I left my mum's womb to be cast into a world I have not so readily embraced until this day.

Arent' we all struggling with everyday's reality? I heard that it is but a number, for another I am now on tram number 51, another track in my life, new times of reflection which things to choose on my path of development. I read a great deal of wise books this past year, one of them was called the Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz on how to apply Toltec shamanic wisdom in our daily life to get back to the innocence we had in our first 2 years of our life.

Ohters were Seven Arrows (on the peace shields and chiefs of the Plains Indians from North America) and a Castaneda one known as The Teachings of Don Juan (2). I liked them all but applying them in my daily life seems easier when read than carried out to the letter.

It is about finding my new balance in my new lease of life. Right now I am torn between continents...where do I feel best and what will I do with my art in the future?

Will I create more once I am back on the road and left the UK or will I become a recluse?

  • GOOD LUCK CHARMS

    30 november 2009

I made or have made people to cast some of my tribal design in good luck charms in brass. Some time ago that was in India.

I was amazed by the craftsmanship of the sculptors in Mahabalipuram, a place by the sea near Chennai. Lots of Hindu deities carved out of rocks, and apparently divers have found that the site was much bigger than what we can see now.

Underwater is another extension of 100 meters into see of sculptures and palaces of what once was a village.

Anyway, I had made design of those tribal charms made on paper and had the carvers carryi it out in soap stone. This was the year 2000. I carried the original pieces to Nepal and had them cast in brass by a blacksmith. It took some perseverance to have him start the business. Only with and advance of some money, he agreed.

The man, who got his first down payment for the start of the production of a 100 pieces, i had 7 different designs. Next day he was supposed to start the work, but instead he spent the money on booze and didn't turn up. When he was back 2 days later, he started, it took him a week, and the very same day I had to leave Kathmandu he was again nowhere to be found, I had paid him the rest I owed him. His colleagues gave me what he had made, but he had also gone with the originals. I though, he is clever and will find some market to produce his own copies...I would never know would I?
Anyway this is the nice story behind the collection.

     I hope you enjoy them.

    Cheers

    Alann
